This watercolor is 3 x 3 inches and is a developed sketch for an assignment in my Illustrator class. The finished/final picture will be 9.25 x 10.25 inches, big enough for a good-sized book cover, which is what this is for.
I'll add some text to it, play around with that a bunch, and see how it turns out.
What do you do for your creative outlet? Do you paint? Draw? Knit? Weave? Let me know! I'm always inspired by others' work.
And always have fun!
I'm turning both of these paintings in for my poster assignment in complementary colors. There's about 9 to 10 hours of time spent on each painting. My blending technique improved a lot in this painting. It's so exciting to see this kind or progress!!! This is Steamrolled Em in Red and is done in acrylic.
Complementary colors study using purple and yellow. The inspiration for this composition is from a novel by my favorite SciFi Romance author, Pauline Baird Jones. She totally rocks!
In "Steamrolled," the heroine, Emily Babcock, is the curator of a steampunk museum in Wyoming - I love it that Pauline has a lot of her characters from Wyoming! Emily's great, great (not sure how many greats) uncle lost track of his transmogrification machine, which happened to turn up in Emily's collection, and Robert, the hunky, nerdy hero, is looking for it. They travel through time, evade an evil overlord and his minions, fly in an airship, knock down some automatons, and have a roller coaster ride of adventure, with a touch of some sizzlin' romance to make a super-fun read. Can you tell, I loved it?
You'll love Pauline's world building, her imagination, and her humor.
I'm finding out I love drawing. Again. It's been a long, long time since I really picked up a pencil, and it's coming back with a wow! Not boasting, just loving it! This sketch is for a class assignment - create a poster in complementary colors only, and my inspiration comes from my most favorite steampunk novel by Pauline Baird Jones. Check it out here. In fact, check out anything she's written, and you're guaranteed to have a blast!
Timey wimey, wibbly wobbly?? Is that right? Maybe something close?
So, Illustrator is interesting. I'm having fun with it. Mostly. Well, okay, sometimes. Sometimes I have fun with it. For right now, though, it's a lot of work trying to figure out exactly how to tell it to do what I want it to.
You should see what the other students in my class can do, though! They are amazing! I'm just hoping they don't laugh at my efforts here. Maybe I shouldn't tell anyone about it.
Nah!! It's way too much fun to keep hidden! Enjoy! I'm sure to bury you with stuff I'm learning this semester!
